Sustainability is becoming an increasingly more important factor not only for policy-makers and citizens, but also for businesses as key leverages to increase efficiency and return on capital.

According to the UN Global Compact-Accenture CEO Study on Sustainability 2013, based on interviews to more than 1,000 CEOs across103 countries and 27 industries, 93% of CEOs interviewed see Sustainability as important for the future success of their business; 78% consider Sustainability as an opportunity for growth and innovation and 80% take into account these issues as a route to gain a competitive advantage in their industry.

The fact that companies executives believe the issue of Sustainability is as increasingly important to their companies’ strategy has ignited activism amongst the private sector to embed sustainability principles and technologies which do not only affect their own activity but also the life of consumers, suppliers and partners, and entire economic sector. This activism of these companies if coupled and supported by the right regulatory condition could become a significant trigger for change that can actually bring value added to businesses, customers and society.

The following Application Cases describe in detail how leading companies are operating to embed Sustainability in their business as usual practices and how implementing always more sustainable solutions brings value to both to internal and external stakeholders.
